The mission of the Holy Trinity Library program is to ensure that students attain the knowledge and skills to effectively research and use information and to promote independent and critical thinking. The school library program will provide a rich variety of materials and instruction to support the curriculum and will promote enthusiasm for lifelong learning.

Accelerated Reading

Grades 1-3

It's once again time to start our AR Program for our younger students.  Anyone interested in becoming an AR parent or interested in helping, please attend a short meeting on Thursday, September 6th at 9:00 am in the Library.

Grades 5,6,7, and 8

We will be starting our AR program on Monday, September 10th.  Grades 5 thru 8 will be participating in this program.

Accelerated Reader is a computer based program that targets the student's reading level in order to accelerate them into more advanced levels.  At the same time, we are able to test them on comprehension as well as encourage them to read independently.

This years program works as follows:

1.  The Student chooses a book from the AR list provided in the library or by clicking on the list to the right.  I ask that they pick a book in their reading level.

2.  After the book is complete, they take the test on the computer (while being monitored) in the Library or Computer Lab.  They then have the test signed by the teacher/monitor in the room and place the test paper in their class file in the Library.

The following are the point requirements for each grade PER QUARTER

Grade 5: 1st: 10 2nd: 10 3rd: 15 4th: 15
Grade 6: 1st: 15 2nd: 15 3rd: 20 4th: 20
Grade 7: 1st: 20 2nd: 20 3rd: 20 4th: 20
Grade 8: 1st: 20 2nd: 25 3rd: 25 4th: 20

PLEASE NOTE:  The Accelerated Reader Points, per quarter, carry 25% for grade 5 and 30% for grades 6-8 of the students reading grade.  This emphasizes that importance of independent reading.  This encourages good comprehension and helps pin point the students who need assistance.  Students who need extra assistance with comprehension and Accelerated Reader testing can still attain the points necessary for the weight of the grade.  Mrs. Millar can work along with their reading teacher to help students who may be having a difficult time on an individual basis.

Please contact Mrs. Millar for any questions or concerns.  Thanks!
