Gala Award Winners

2017 Outstanding Catholic Community Award

The Outstanding Catholic Community Award will be presented to Ms. Helen Herbst.  Helen was recognized for her lifelong commitment to the music ministry at Holy Trinity Parish, still serving after 40 years.  Helen is our current Choir Director and serves on the Liturgy Committee.  She is a member of the Ladies Guild, a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound and part of a women’s prayer group.  She also spent many years teaching and developing the Holy Trinity School band and continues to offer private music lessons.  According to one nomination, “Helen’s praise of the Lord oozes out of her through her music, her teaching, her prayer life and the embodiment of the phrase, “witness in any way you can, even use words if you must.” 

 

 

2017 Holy Trinity Gala Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award will be presented to George and Phyllis Perz. George and Phyllis were recognized for their 13 years of service planning and organizing Bingo at Holy Trinity Parish. Their regular hours and tireless efforts contributed to the financial stability and growth of Holy Trinity School and Parish. George is a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.  Phyllis serves on the Isabella Ladies Guild.  Both are Eucharistic Ministers and active members of the church choir.  Their level of involvement continues to exemplify their                                                                character and integrity.

 

 

2017 Holy Trinity Gala Alumnus Award of Excellence

The Alumnus Award of Excellence will be presented to Sally Glenn.  Sally is an alumni of the Holy Trinity Class of 1957.  She was a teacher in the Amherst school system for 32 years.  She also earned her Master’s Degree in Administration. Sally was part of our CCD program in 1960’s and established our PSR Program in 1975.  She also established the VBS program in 1993.  She has served as an organist, cantor and in the choir for 40 years.  She is a Eucharistic Minister and serves the residents of Avon Place.  She is a member of the liturgy commission and prepares the petitions for our weekend masses.  According to one nomination, Sally is totally devoted to keeping Holy Trinity Parish vibrant and alive in spreading God’s Love, Word and Will. 

 

 

2017 Holy Trinity Gala Young Alumnus Award of Excellence

The Young Alumnus Award of Excellence will be presented to Owen Williams.  Owen is graduate of the Holy Trinity Class of 2009 and the son of Marc and Mary Williams.  Owen is currently a seminarian of the Congregation of the Holy Cross at the University of Notre Dame where he is on the Dean’s List and has maintained High Honors.  His current ministry is direct service to the poor at the South Bend Center for the Homeless. Owen was a regular volunteer in our VBS program while in high school and worked tirelessly to bring the children of the parish closer to Jesus at his Bible Studies station.  Owen served as an altar server and worked in our parish office.  He believes that Holy Trinity helped foster his call to the priesthood and gave him the courage to pursue his vocation.  Owen has exhibited a constant commitment to his faith and never hesitates to return to his roots and give back.
